FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 13, 2022

The BC Craft Farmers Co-Op (BCCFC) hosted our 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) Saturday morning via Zoom.  In addition to doing the regular AGM business, participants heard informative presentations from a series of guest speakers.  Here is a recap:

1. AGM Business

Participants reviewed last year’s AGM meeting summary, approved financial statements, received a summary of accomplishments over the past year and acclaimed three Directors to the BCCFC Board for a two-year term.

Thanks to Tara Kirkpatrick (Craft Farmer – Prince George), Kayla Mann (Processor – Chase) and Brent Campbell (Craft Farmer – Capital Region) for their commitment to serve on the Board.

2. BCCFC Investment Committee

Members and supporters received an exclusive report from the BCCFC’s Investment Committee.

Committee Chair and BCCFC Director Shar Mortezaei presented an update on plans to help members find a better path to market, compete in a ‘noisy marketplace’ and devote more time to what they do best.

3. Overdose Prevention

Sarah Blyth, Executive Director of the Vancouver Overdose Prevention Society joined the AGM to talk about their heroic work to provide cannabis as a substitution treatment for people addicted to harmful drugs like opiates, cocaine and alcohol.

The Society just received a medical sales licence and is interested in collaborating with BCCFC farmers to secure high-quality cannabis for these vulnerable citizens.

4. National Tourism Strategy

Susan Dupej from the Canadian Cannabis Tourism Alliance provided an update on the organization’s work to educate federal and provincial decision-makers about the significant opportunities associated with the development of a national destination tourism strategy for cannabis.

BCCFC is a founding member of the Alliance.

Watch for more information on all these topics and the pending Cannabis Act review over the coming month.
