During the 2025 BC Cannabis Summit in Victoria, Canada’s response to the illegal US tariffs was identified as an emerging issue, particularly related to the elimination of inter-provincial trade barriers, U.S. ownership of Canadian cannabis companies and Buy Canada consumer campaigns.

·         Inter-Provincial Trade: Delegates suggested a single excise tax stamp as a potential advantage for BC craft cannabis farmers, whose product is in high demand across Canada.

·         Buy Canada: BCCFC welcomed a presentation from organizers of the national “420 Elbows Up” campaign promoting Canadian-owned cannabis companies and defending Canada’s industry from growing American corporate control. Proud Canadian cannabis brands are invited to register at 420elbowsup.ca.

BCCFC President Tara Kirkpatrick said, “We thank the organizers of the 420 Elbows Up campaign for raising awareness about this critical issue. We encourage all members and Canadian brands to participate in defending Canada’s cannabis sovereignty.”
