Further to Health Canada’s presentation at the BC Cannabis Summit, BCCFC has delivered its response to the federal government’s most recent request for ideas on fixing the problems associated with the Cannabis Act. Our November 2022 submission in response to the Cannabis Act review on behalf of BC craft farmers, processors, retailers, and supporters, was also resent.
We are pleased that Health Canada has responded to our call to consider immediate changes while the federal Expert Panel conducts its external review over the next two years.
Among other things, we propose six improvements the federal government can make very easily by the end of summer:
- At least double the micro-production and micro-processing caps
- Security clearance at the start of the application process
- Rollback May 2019 Health Canada “build facility before applying” policy
- Allow craft labelling on cannabis products
- Adjust edible packaging limits upwards
- Increase purchase and possession limits from 30 grams
Read our response below to Health Canada’s consultation for potential amendments to the Cannabis Act which closed on May 24, 2023.
